Somewhere in Time I have been a fan of that movie since the day it opened in theaters. It has a special place in my heart. My sister Laurie bought the album and gave it to me to listen to while she was away living in Thailand. I used to listen to it over and over. I finally get a chance to see where they filmed. Anywho….
We caught the h 2pm Star Line hydro ferry to Mackinac Island. Still need to find out why the shore city is spelled with a “W” and the island a “C”. The ride was a quick 15 mins to the island.
Since it is so late in the day, our first order of business is to find some lunch. Luckily there is a visitor kiosk located across the street. We are told there are only two dog friendly restaurants on the island. One is BBQ, and we have had our quota…and one out door Bistro. On The Green located at the end of the island at Mission Pointe. The walk is beautiful. Samson is having an adjustment period to all the horse drawn carriages.
We decide on a light lunch and of course a fancy cocktail. Lavender Hibiscus Lemonade and Rye Wiskey.
The homes on the island are so picturesque. True Victorian architecture and so many beautiful varieties of flowers adorn each yard, entryway, and home.
Of course we had to stop at the oldest fudge shop! Murdick’s Fudge.
Now…why we are really here 🙂 We begin our walk down to The Grand Hotel. As always, we can’t do it like everyone else. We found a lovely path through the woods that led us to the grounds keeper area.
We round the last corner of the path and BAM! There she is…
Built in 1887 entirely of wood. Still stately and “grand” 🙂 Since we have the dog with us, Mark and I will come back on Friday night for dinner. The grounds are stunning.
There are several old churches on the island but this one was my favorite. I really appreciate the gothic look.
more to come….
